Executive Overview
ViroBiome™ Pepti is a patented rapeseed-derived peptide hydrolysate obtained from Brassica napus meal through a controlled alkaline hydrolysis process.
It is designed as a short-contact, rinse-off bioactive module for functional hygiene and controlled exposure cosmetic applications.
Patent family
Rapeseed-derived peptide hydrolysate technology
Plant-based upcycling of rapeseed meal
Controlled alkaline hydrolysis process
ViroBiome™ Pepti provides a standardized hydrolysate containing:
• low molecular weight proteins below 30 kDa
• characteristic peptide fractions around 17 kDa, 17 to 20 kDa and 25 kDa
• volatile compounds
• nitrogen-containing volatile compounds
• water-soluble bioactive components
Its strategic value lies in controlled short-contact biological interface support.
ViroBiome™ Pepti is not positioned as a leave-on dermal active, long-duration barrier technology, textile treatment, baby care ingredient, medical treatment, disinfectant or biocide.
It is positioned as a controlled exposure module for rinse-off hygiene, cleansing systems and short-contact applications.
Why Pepti Matters Now
Hygiene is moving beyond simple cleansing.
Urban density, repeated contact, pollution exposure, climate-related stressors and population aging are increasing the pressure placed on skin and mucosal interfaces.
At the same time, consumers and industrial partners are looking for more functional hygiene systems that support comfort, barrier balance and microbiome-compatible care without aggressive elimination.
ViroBiome™ Pepti addresses this need through a controlled short-contact approach.
Cleanse. Support. Rinse.
Macro Context
Urbanization
High-density environments increase:
• repeated surface contact
• particulate exposure
• pollution-related oxidative stress
• frequent cleansing cycles
• pressure on exposed biological interfaces
Population Aging
Aging tissues may present:
• weaker barrier integrity
• slower recovery capacity
• increased sensitivity to cleansing and friction
• altered surface balance
• higher vulnerability to irritation
Climate Warming
Climate warming adds additional pressure to exposed interfaces.
Rising temperatures, heat waves, humidity variation, pollution peaks, wildfire particles, longer pollen seasons and increased aeroallergen exposure may intensify daily stress on skin and mucosal surfaces.
This creates a need for hygiene technologies that can support exposed interfaces during cleansing or short-contact use without increasing prolonged exposure risk.
What Is ViroBiome™ Pepti?
ViroBiome™ Pepti is a rapeseed meal hydrolysate produced from upcycled Brassica napus by-products.
The hydrolysate is obtained through a process involving:
• rapeseed seed pressing
• recovery of rapeseed meal
• aqueous dispersion
• alkaline hydrolysis
• pH adjustment
• solid-liquid separation
• recovery of the hydrolysate
The process described in the patent uses alkaline hydrolysis at pH 13 to 14 for 30 minutes to 4 hours, followed by pH adjustment between 4 and 5 and recovery of the hydrolysate .
This creates a water-soluble peptide-rich botanical hydrolysate suitable for controlled exposure formulations.
Core Functional Benefits
Short-Contact Interface Support
Designed for hygiene formats where exposure time is limited, defined and followed by rinsing or removal.
Barrier Comfort Support
Supports the perception of surface comfort in cleansing or short-contact applications.
Microbiome-Compatible Hygiene
Designed to support surface balance without relying on broad biocidal disruption.
Plant-Based Upcycling
Valorizes rapeseed meal, a by-product of rapeseed oil production, into a higher-value functional ingredient.
Water-Soluble Peptide Fraction
Provides a hydrolysate containing low molecular weight proteins and volatile compounds compatible with aqueous hygiene systems.
Controlled Exposure Design
Prioritizes formats where contact duration, removal and safety assessment can be clearly defined.
Scientific & Functional Foundation
Rapeseed Peptide Hydrolysate
The patent describes a rapeseed meal hydrolysate containing 0.3 to 3 % by weight of proteins below 30 kDa and 0.01 to 0.5 % by weight of volatile compounds, including 0.01 to 0.1 % nitrogen-containing volatile compounds .
This supports a positioning around standardized peptide hydrolysate technology.
Low Molecular Weight Protein Signature
The hydrolysate includes three characteristic low molecular weight protein bands:
• P1 around 17 kDa
• P2 between 17 and 20 kDa
• P3 around 25 kDa
This provides a useful technical signature for quality control, differentiation and industrial standardization .
Cosmetic Barrier and Skin Quality Positioning
The patent positions the hydrolysate in non-therapeutic cosmetic applications, particularly around signs of skin aging, skin barrier function and skin appearance. It states that treated skin may appear less dull, more even, less dry, brighter and more radiant in the described cosmetic context .
For ViroBiome, this should be translated into cautious language:
• barrier comfort support
• surface resilience
• cleansing-related skin quality
• microbiome-compatible hygiene
• controlled short-contact care
Controlled Exposure Rationale
Because ViroBiome™ Pepti is a bioactive peptide hydrolysate with enzymatic modulation potential, it should be reserved for rinse-off, wipe-off or short-contact applications.
Any leave-on, occlusive, prolonged dermal, prolonged mucosal or long-wear use should require dedicated toxicological, systemic exposure and cardiovascular safety assessment.
Controlled Exposure Framework
Recommended use scope:
• rinse-off hygiene products
• cleansing gels
• shower products
• intimate wash products
• short-contact cleansing foams
• wipe-off cleansing systems
• short-contact facial or body cleansers
• professional protocols with defined application time and removal
Industrial & Formulation Integration
Form
Water-soluble rapeseed peptide hydrolysate.
Recommended inclusion
To be defined according to final product category, exposure duration, rinse-off profile and toxicological assessment.
For early screening, an indicative level may be assessed in controlled short-contact rinse-off systems only.
Compatible priority formats
• cleansing gels
• rinse-off emulsions
• shower gels
• hygiene foams
• intimate wash products
• short-contact wipes
• wipe-off cleansing lotions
• professional cleansing protocols
Use in leave-on, occlusive or prolonged-contact formats should not be pursued without additional systemic exposure and cardiovascular safety assessment.
Platform Synergy
Pepti + Safety → ViroBiome™ PROTECT
Controlled short-contact module combining surface protection and peptide-based interface support.
Priority use: rinse-off, wipe-off and controlled exposure hygiene systems only.
Pepti + CERA
Potential complementary logic for short-contact cleansing plus lipid comfort support, but not for prolonged peptide exposure.
For longer-contact applications, ViroBiome™ SHIELD, based on Safety + CERA, remains the more appropriate platform.
Advanced Surface Architecture
ViroBiome™ Pepti can be integrated into controlled exposure surface architectures designed for short-contact applications.
These architectures may support:
• localized deposition during cleansing
• short-contact interaction
• optimized removal after rinsing or wiping
• separation of cleansing and bioactive phases
• defined exposure time
• reduced residual peptide exposure after use
For Pepti, the architecture should not be described as long-lasting release, prolonged retention or durable peptide deposition.
The correct positioning is controlled delivery during use, followed by rinsing, wiping or limited residual exposure.
